Streptomyces rimosus R6-500 is an industrial strain, which was used to produce oxytetracycline. Genetic instability is a significant problem during industrial fermentation of this strain. The derivative MV9 was a non-producer, which appeared to have deleted the oxytetracycline cluster. However, it was possible to obtain revertants such as MV9-R8 in which part of the "deleted" sequences reappeared, because the sequences are present at a copy number of about 0.001 in the mycelium. The aim of the study is to understand the DNA rearrangements occurring during genetic instability.
