Reduced peritoneal foam cell formation and lower expression of ABCA1 in ORP8 KO macrophages, but no change in cellular cholesterol efflux.

Expression of ABCA1 was measured by QPCR in Peritoneal Leukocytes isolated from LDLr KO mice at 17 weeks after transplantation with WT BM or ORP8 KO BM and 9 weeks WTD feeding. A) The ORP8 KO transplanted group displays a reduced amount of foam cells when expressed as a percentage of total peritoneal leukocytes. B) In line, expression of ABCA1 in peritoneal leukocytes of ORP8 KO BM recipients is reduced. (** P<0.01, N = 4) C) However, no change in cholesterol efflux of BMDMs to ApoA1 or HDL was found (N = 5). Results are expressed as mean ± SEM after subtraction of baseline efflux to BSA. Significance was determined by Student t-test.
