This study explores the impact of ecological divergence and population heterogeneity on the adaptive fitness of Ischnosiphon puberulus, Maranthaceae, a ground-herb species in Amazonian riparian forests. The distribution of species in these forests is primarily influenced by waterflooding tolerance, leading to distinct wetland forest types. The research investigates the genetic basis of adaptive responses in two forest types (Igapo and Terra firme) by comparing environmental variables and gene expression profiles. The study reveals significant genetic and gene expression differences between populations in Igapo and Terra firme, with environmental factors driving population divergence.
