The aim of the study was to determine microbial and metabolites diversity on samples of badly damaged medieval beeswax seals from the Archdiocese Archive in Gniezno, Poland. We employed high-throughput sequencing on the Illumina platform and 109Ag SALDI metabolome analysis for the first time to assess the biodeterioration of the beeswax seals.
