Bjerkandera adusta Dec 1 Project

We analyzed the draft genome sequence of Bjerkandera adusta strain Dec 1, a basidiomycete isolated from the environment in Japan, using the Illumina HiSeq platform and DNA from a PCR-free preparation. B. adusta Dec 1 was identified as a fungus that degrades persistent anthraquinone compounds, and the enzyme responsible for this degradation, the novel peroxidase DyP, was later identified and isolated. Our aim in this analysis was to identify secreted peroxidases from B. adusta Dec 1, particularly unknown isoforms of DyP-type peroxidases, to further our understanding of the oxidative degradation of anthraquinone compounds.
