The goal of this study is to investigate the characteristics of this novel organism, particularly its metabolism. Since isolated from Oak Ridge, TN (a site that is heavily contaminated with uranium), we believe that this organism contributes to the carbon turnover in soils that promote the growth of metal-reducing microbes that would otherwise be inhibited by the buildup of products (such as acetate).
