(WMS) – Cone seals: Resting places in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea from 1989, (buffer: 500 m) (LKN.SH – NPV)

Display service: A resting place is a calculated area generated on the basis of sightings at berths of seals or cone seals. A resting place is defined as a circle with a radius of 500 m around a berth (with at least 1 cone seal), whereby several berths can be aggregated into a larger area. The berths are either spatially summarised per year or the calculations are carried out on the basis of individual flights. The distance of 500 m was chosen because disturbances more than 500 m away have little or no effect on dormant seals. These areas are needed for intervention planning in order to reduce to a minimum the disturbances of the seals associated with the intervention. For cone seals, flights from 1.03-28.2 are taken into account for calculating resting places per year. Already before the start of the specific Kegel seal monitoring in 2005, cone seals were recorded together with seals from 1989 onwards. The service contains the following information and layers from 1989: 1. Resting places aggregated per year: the location and size of the resting place and the time period of the recordings included in the calculation (single-year layer and layer with all data of all years). 2. Resting places per flight: Here, information on the number of individuals can also be derived (annual layer and layer with data from all flights of all years).
