Representations of India in Europeana Metadata: raw and final datasets

This record archives the two datasets underlying the project Representations of India in Europeana Metadata (MA Data and Discourse Studies, TU Darmstadt). The full workflow: five Jupyter notebooks, documentation, and analysis outputs, is available at: https://github.com/Shone-Joseph/Open_Project_2026Version 2 (July 2026): two provider records ("National Audiovisual Institute France") upgraded from uncertain to matched in europeana_india_unique_titles_enhanced_extended.csv, following manual verification of the institution's identity (Institut national de l'audiovisuel, INA, Q1665109). Final match-status counts are now: 188 matched, 54 not_checked, 3 needs_manual_review. The raw dataset is unchanged. Version 1 remains accessible via its own version DOI. Why these two files are archived Both datasets depend on live services and cannot be regenerated by re-running code: europeana_india_dataset_1500_raw.csv is the fixed input dataset, collected from the Europeana Search API in May 2026 using four thematic query groups (geographic, colonial, cultural, material; 375 records each). Europeana is a live, continuously updated service, so re-running the collection notebook will not return the same records. This file is the authoritative starting point for reproducing all analyses. Place it in data/raw/ europeana_india_unique_titles_enhanced_extended.csv is the authoritative final output (245 unique-title records). It reflects Wikidata enrichment performed against the live Wikidata service (May–June 2026) and manual relevance judgments by the author, neither of which is exactly reproducible at a later date. All findings in the project report are based on this snapshot. Expected match-status counts: 188 matched, 54 not_checked, 3 needs_manual_review. All intermediate files are deterministic: running notebooks 01–04 from the GitHub repository against the raw CSV regenerates every processed dataset, figure, and summary table. Rights. Europeana metadata is published under the CC0 1.0 Public Domain Dedication per the Europeana Data Exchange Agreement; attribution to Europeana and its contributing institutions is requested as good practice. The underlying digital objects carry individual rights statements available on each Europeana record. Author-added analytical columns (flags, relevance judgments, Wikidata matches, completeness indicators) are released under this record's license.
