Chromosome-level genome assembly of Triticum turgidum var Kronos

Kronos (Triticum turgidum var Kronos) stands out as a powerful system for biological research, supported by extensive EMS (ethyl methane sulphonate)-mutagenized TILLING (targeted induced local lesions in genomes) populations. For over 1,000 mutants, exome-capture and promoter-capture sequencing data have characterized EMS-induced mutations across genic regions. These TILLING populations and their associated mutations have aided diverse studies, including investigations of disease resistance, crop yield, development, and metabolism. This project aims to generate a high-quality Kronos reference genome, enabling enhanced reverse genetics approaches through higher-resolution mutation mapping and supporting genome-assisted research to advance wheat improvement.
