The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) was a part of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) which used resources from nearly 30 countries to make unprecedented in-situ and satellite observations of the global ocean between 1990 and 1998 and to observe poorly-understood but important physical processes.
This dataset provides Shipboard Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (SADCP) data. The hull-mounted ADCP estimates horizontal and vertical velocity as a function of depth by using the Doppler effect to measure the radial relative velocity between the instrument and scatterers in the ocean. The SADCP data are nominally hourly time and 10m depth averages and were taken on WOCE and WOCE-affiliated cruises.
