Cash withdrawn at ATM using debit cards change in the Netherlands 2000-2020

Dutch consumers continued to use their debit cards for small size payments in 2019. That year, the average amount of money paid per month with debit cards decreased by approximately four percent when compared to the previous year, indicating that debit cards are used for small-size payments. In the Netherlands, the total number of credit cards reached roughly 6.5 million in 2018. According to the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), approximately 55 percent of all Dutch consumers have a credit card in his or her possession. The use of debit cards, however, is much more accepted as a payment method.
