Seed transmission of endophytic microorganisms is an igniting research area in plant and environmental microbiology. We employed the excised embryos from mature cucurbit seeds to assess the endophytic bacterial colonization and possible vertical transmission adopting cultivation versus cultivation-independent approaches. The findings indicated the vertical transmissibility of endophytic bacteria in watermelon / cucurbits through embryo colonization.
