Sex-related gonadal gene expression differences in the Russian sturgeon

This study focuses on transcriptome differences between male and female sturgeon fish and identifies key genes that may participate in sexual determination and differentiation. Understanding the mechanisms of sexual differentiation in the sturgeon is not only of potential commercial value (the sturgeon is a producer of caviar), but also helps elucidate the evolution of said mechanisms in higher vertebrates.
