Raw Data_ Exploring the Interplay of Social Psychological Factors and Social Avoidance: A Study among Chinese University Students

The dataset, " Raw Data_ Exploring the Interplay of Social Psychological Factors and Social Avoidance: A Study among Chinese University Students," was collected between June and August 2025 through the Wenjuanxing online survey platform from university students at five universities in Zhengzhou, China. Using a questionnaire-based survey method, a total of 821 valid responses were obtained. The dataset was used to examine the relationships among social motivation, appearance-based self-presentation anxiety, social fatigue, and social avoidance behavior. The dataset includes demographic variables and key psychological constructs, including intimacy motivation, influence motivation, self-expression motivation, appearance-based self-presentation anxiety, social fatigue, and social avoidance behavior. Guided by the Stimulus–Organism–Response (S-O-R) theoretical framework, a dual mediation model was constructed for analysis. These data provide empirical evidence for understanding the emotional mechanisms linking social motivation and social avoidance in digital social contexts and offer theoretical support for psychological interventions and digital social management practices in higher education settings.
