Data and Code for "A mountain-generated mesoscale test case from DCMIP-2025: Gap flow and vortex shedding variants"
收藏资源简介:
This repository pertains to the paper 'A mountain-generated mesoscale test case from DCMIP-2025: Gap flow and vortex shedding variants'. A copy of the CAM code, with code for the SE, FV3, and MPAS dynamical cores, is provided in the 'CAM_code' directory. This code was run on the derecho supercomputer for the results in the paper. The 'vertical_grids' directory contains the vertical grid (hybrid coordinates) for FV3 and SE (cam_vcoords_dzlow100_dzmax500_top20km_L57.nc) and four grids for MPAS, as MPAS needs a specific grid for each orography and with/without rotation. Details about running the simulations in the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) and additional scripts made are given in the 'CAM_run_instructions' directory. This includes the necessary xmlchanges and the user namelist options for each CAM dynamical core. The 'RF_damping' directory contains Rayleigh damping routines which are used for model top damping. Simulation data from the four dynamical cores are provided under their respective names: CAM_SE_results, CAM_FV3_results, CAM_MPAS_results, GungHo_results. As the entire four-dimensional outputs for the wind and temperature fields (time, z/p level, lon, lat) are large, we give the data that was used for the paper figures and analysis. Larger data files (e.g. full 4D fields) can be made available upon request or by running the simulations on one's own computer. For each dynamical core, there are temperature and wind fields interpolated to z=300m at the end time. For the CAM dynamical cores, time snapshots are provided over the simulation at z=300m (41 times for the gap flow, 81 times for the vortex shedding). There are also results from investigations with different diffusion settings in each dynamical core. The interpolation_scripts directory contains jupyter notebooks used to interpolate and crop the fields for reading into the figure making scripts, which are all stored in the jupyter_notebooks directory. The other_plotting_fields directory contains some miscellaneuous files for plotting: the hybrid coordinates for the CAM pressure levels and surface fields for the gap flow test.
