Rigid Polyurethane Foams as Cryogenic Insulation for Future Zero-Emission Commercial Aircrafts (PUR4LH2)

The project will address the challenge of European civil aviation to develop a commercial aircraft powered by liquefied hydrogen (LH2) by 2035. In compliance with the requirements of the aviation industry, a solid polyurethane foam composition will be developed for the cryogenic insulation of the LH2 tanks, using environmentally friendly, sustainable components - polyols obtained from renewable raw materials, heavy metalfree catalysts and foaming agents with low global warming potential. The materials that will be developed for aviation will have a service life of at least 20 years, and methods of eliminating possible defects will also be offered
