VPRS 901 Registers of Common Schools Committees

The volumes in this series record the appointment and composition of Local Committees for Common Schools under the direction of the Board of Education. Each double page, headed with the school number and name, gives details of the name of the committee member, the clause regulating the member's election to the Committee, the distance of the member's residence from the school and the place of residence. The opposite page gives the names, occupations and religions of committee members and the correspondence reference for that members appointment to or removal from the Local Committee. Details were crossed out when persons ceased to be members of the Committee.At the front of Unit 1 is given a list of schools connected to the Denominational Schools Board (VA 703) or non-vested in the National Schools Board (VA 919) and now vested in the Board of Education. Details given for these are the Roll Number, Name, Former, Authority (given as a correspondence number) and remarks.In this same volume the remainder of the index pages are used for General Memoranda related to Local Committees and their appointment. These are alphabetically indexed by the main term with a summary of the content of each one in the margin.
