Temperatures within and outside flowerheads of the summer-flowering Mediterranean thistle <i>Carlina corymbosa</i> (Asteraceae)

This dataset consists of a single file containing N = 24,519 paired temperature measurements taken inside seven different Carlina corymbosa (Asteraceae) flowerheads (Tin) and the air nearby (Tout), recorded continuously during periods of 2-5 days. The first line of the file has the names of the variables, which are self-explanatory: "locality", "flower_id", "time.UTC", "Tin", "Tout". One fine type K thermocouple inserted perpendicularly inside the flowerhead provided the Tin measurements, while a similar thermocouple with the tip kept ~2 cm away from the flowerhead's surface yielded the Tout measurements. Thermocouples were connected to a battery-powered data logger/thermometer. Data are from two southern Iberian C. corymbosa populations, growing in open Quercus ilex woodlands of central Sierra Morena (Córdoba province, 760 m a.s.l.) and in large clearings of Pinus nigra forests in the Sierra de Cazorla (Jaén province, 1410 m a.s.l.), named "Cordoba" and "Cazorla", respectively, in the field "locality" of the dataset. The two sites were 155 km apart.
