Digital Archive from a Magnetometer and Earth Resistance Survey at Stancombe Down, Lambourn, West Berkshire, 2024

This collection comprises raw magnetometer and earth resistance data, greyscale images of processed survey data and CAD drawings from a magnetometer and earth resistance survey at Stancombe Down, Lambourn. Work was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd in June 2024. The site contains the remains of a Roman building or buildings, located during flint/chalk extraction in 1887 and recorded on the Ordnance Survey map of 1900. The results of the survey indicate the presence of structural remains that correlate with the mapped location with a patch of magnetic debris to the north east. The resistivity survey also located anomalies indicative of structural remains at the mapped location and also to the north east, including one under the patch of magnetic debris which may indicate a relatively modern backfill of an excavated building. Other anomalies further south east are associated with settlement, with a number of linear boundary ditches, a possible trackway, enclosures, pits and former quarrying also located.
