The goal of the study was to compare Posidonia sinuosa epiphytic bacterial and archaeal community with that of the surrounding environment (sediment and water) in summer and winter. Moreover, we used functional genes involved in ammonia oxidation and ureolysis as markers to estimate the abundance and diversity of ammonia-oxidizers microorganisms and ureolytic bacteria within P. sinuosa meadows in Western Australia. Therefore, we obtained an insight into the potential link between the consumption of DON to the production of DIN in seagrass meadow ecosystems.
