Acinetobacter baumannii surveillance was conducted from 1 April 2017 to 31 July 2018 under GERMS-SA, which is an active, laboratory-based surveillance program. We expanded the surveillance from 1 August 2018 to 30 September 2019 at 19 enhanced hospitals located in the Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape provinces in South Africa usingsurveillance officers who collected demographic and clinical information (used GERMS-SA standardised case report form) from patients who met the case definition.
