VPRS 21025 Council of Judges Papers

This series comprises the meeting agendas and papers of the Supreme Court of Victoria's Council of Judges. The Judges of the Supreme Court of Victoria are required under section 28 of the Supreme Court Act 1986 to meet at least annually to (a) consider the operation of this Act and the Rules; and (b) consider the working of the offices of the Court and the arrangements relating to the duties of the officers of the Court; and (c) inquire into and examine any defects which appear to exist in the system of procedure or the administration of the law in the Court and in any other court from which an appeal lies to the Court. The papers are memoranda and reports about the organisation and administration of the court and its business. This might include the arrangement of court business (for example allocation of judicial officers to particular lists ), the state and repair of the court buildings, robes and wigs, or proposals from the Attorney General for the administration of the court and justice. They helped to inform the Council of Judges' discussions and deliberations in their meetings. The minutes for these meetings are contained in Council of Judges Minute Books (VPRS 21020). Extant records in this series date from 1905 and then 1982 onwards, however it is likely that the series began before 1905. The whereabouts of any other records in the series is unknown.
