Code and data for, 'Solar wind and PUI proton heating rates and turbulence effects on energetic particles in the heliosphere'
收藏资源简介:
Solar wind and pickup proton heating rates and turbulence effects on energetic particles in the heliosphere This release contains the MATLAB code, input data, and output results for computing radial profiles of solar-wind (SW) proton and pickup-ion(PUI) heating rates in the outer heliosphere. It uses Voyager 2 (1977–2007), Pioneer 10 (1972–1995), and New Horizons SWAP data, and compares the results with the MHD model of Adhikari et al. (2025, https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/adde4f). The results are published in, "Solar wind and PUI proton heating rates and turbulence effects on energetic particles in the heliosphere," Adhikari et al. (2026), The Astrophysical Journal, https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/aeacc4. The main script, Heating_rate_turbulence_ep.m, computes radially binned heating rates (erg cm⁻³ s⁻¹) and specific heating rates (erg g⁻¹ s⁻¹) with propagated uncertainties. It also computes charge-exchange and photo-ionization mass-loading rates, power-law fits, and correlations with plasma parameters. Finally, it predicts energetic-particle intensities from the specific heating rate and compares them with New Horizons (https://pds-smallbodies.astro.umd.edu/data_sb/missions/newhorizons/index.shtml) and Voyager 2 (~50–110 keV, PL02 energy channel; http://sd-www.jhuapl.edu/VOYAGER/vgr2_data_files.html) observations (Nikoukar et al. 2026, https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/ae2753). Running the script produces 18 figures and writes eight CSV files of heating rate and specific heating rate versus heliocentric distance (V2, P10, and NH SW; NH PUI) to results. Contents: MATLAB_scripts/ (the code), data/ (input data), results/ (CSV output), README.md (full documentation), and LICENSE. Requirements: MATLAB R2021a or later with the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox. To run it, open MATLAB_scripts/ in MATLAB and run Heating_rate_turbulence_ep. Set save_plots = true to save the figures as PNGs. The code is released under the MIT License. The input data are not covered by this license; please cite and follow the terms of their original sources (NASA CDAWeb, the Princeton SWAP PUI data page, Nikoukar et al. 2026, and Adhikari et al. 2025).
