Place names extracted from cartographic sources used in the Ligurian case study of the PRIN 2022 project ‘Bridging geography and history of woodlands’, concerning the municipalities of Fontanigorda, Rezzoaglio, Rovegno, Santo Stefano d'Aveto (Liguria, N-W, Italy). Sources used: Preparatory map for the topographic map of the States of Terra Ferma (1827-1829, 1:20,000); Topographic map of the States of Terra Ferma by H.R.H. Carlo Alberto, King of Sardinia (1831, 1:50,000); Topographic map of the States of Terra Ferma by His Majesty the King of Sardinia (1853, 1:50,000); IGM Map of Italy (1936-1937, 1:25,000); Regional Technical Map (1986, 1:25,000); Regional Technical Map (2017, 1:10,000). Dataset description: - Id: Unique numerical identifier for each toponym. - Type ("tipo_local"): Toponym classification, with the following codes: c = Settlements and scattered residential areas ("Centri e case") f = Water-related toponyms ("Idronimi") s = Infrastructure and road-related features ("Manufatti") g = Landform-related toponyms ("Morfologia") m = Historical mills ("Mulini") - Toponym ("Topo_[year]"): Name as transcribed from each historical map; one field per year (six total). - Variation ("Var_[year]"): Degree of variation compared to 2017, coded as: 0 = unchanged 1 = disappeared 2 = minor change 3 = major change 4 = appears for the first time in 2017 The dataset has been developed within the framework of the project PRIN 2022 “Bridging geography and history of woodlands: analysing mountain wooded landscapes through multiple sources and historical GIS” (2022EKECST), funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU (CUP E53D23010170006).
