Social Media Accounts of Candidates from the German Federal Election 2025

In close collaboration with the University of Oldenburg and the GESIS German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES), the GESIS Web Data service has collected the Social Media accounts of the German Federal Election candidates of 2025. In that effort, we manually collected the URLs and IDs of the candidates’ public social media accounts on platforms X (Twitter), TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky, as well as URLs of personal websites. The collection and verification of accounts and personal websites of candidates ran from January to August 2025. The entries of candidates included in the GLES also feature their unique GLES IDs, allowing for linking the candidate-level social media data to the survey data. Candidate ID, which can be used to link to other data records from the federal election; unique GLES ID, which can be used to link to GLES study data; candidate´s first name, candidate´s last name; candidate´s party affiliation during the 2025 federal election; Federal state in which the candidate is running during the 2025 federal election; primary, secondary, and third professional Facebook account of the candidate (URL); unique and stable Facebook ID of the candidate´s primary and secondary accounts; primary, secondary, and third professional Instagram account of the candidate (URL); Candidate´s primary and secondary professional X (Twitter) account (URL); unique and stable X (Twitter) ID of the candidate´s primary and secondary accounts; Candidate´s primary and secondary professional TikTok account (URL); Candidate´s primary professional Bluesky account (URL); Candidate´s primary and secondary professional website (URL).
