资源简介:
This is a draft report on the archaeological survey of a 4,800-acre tract south of the Gila River referred to as the Cochran Survey. The initial phase of the project involved a 1500-acre survey identifying and evaluating prehistoric and historic cultural properties on Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) lands. The survey area was located in Pinal County. In total, 15 sites and 116 isolates were recorded in the survey area, most of which were believed to relate to Hohokam cultural facies. Prefield records searches, project methods and techniques, survey results, preliminary interpretation of those results, and an evaluation of National Register eligibility are presented below.
The ACS research design for on-call contacts submitted to Reclamation defined four broad historic context themes for cultural resource studies including subsistence/settlement systems; social-political-ideological organization; exchange, trade, and commerce; and technology and industry. Site types predicted to be on Reclamation property during the current study consist largely of subsistence/resource procurement sites and are perhaps most likely to provide survey information relevant to research questions included under the subsistence/settlement theme.
