“Mum was kinda political”: Storyworlds towards re-curriculising radicalised youth and radicalisation

In settler-colonial Australia, Muslim youth of the “September 11 Generation” are subjected to multi-sited deradicalisation technologies that construct them as “at-risk” and “risky”. Moving beyond critique of counter-terror, this thesis offers a meditation on the “deradicalised” subject to demonstrate a radicalisation from below. The thesis argues for the de-studying of the researched young Muslim, instead building a lived archive of unknowable Muslim being and becoming political from a 9/11 Muslim standpoint, situating young people as knowers and theorists of their own radicalisation.
