NRS-1772 | Coroner's notebook [O'Connell Plains]

This is the notebook of Robert Sutton Back, Coroner at O'Connell Plains from 29 May 1883 to 1895, and a Justice of the Peace from 1888.This notebook covers inquests held from 27 October 1883 to 21 November 1889. The details given include copies of witnesses' statements, speeches to the jury, verdicts, and details of travelling time and fees incurred, in some cases. Certificates of burial issued are also noted.The notebook also contains annual reports of accounts to the Parochial Council of St. Thomas' Church, O'Connell, of which R.S. Back was Treasurer and Trustee. Miscellaneous items include agreements and copies of agreements relating to the use of land, witnessed by R.S. Back; a call for tenders to purchase the O'Connell mill property; draft wills; a cure for burns and scalds; and a draft letter to the editors of the Bathurst Free Press.(2/8336). 1 vol.
