A dataset of legacy deep boreholes digitized across the Near Fault Observatory area "TABOO" (Central Italy)

The dataset includes the stratigraphic information digitized from seven deep boreholes (MONTE_CIVITELLO_001, PERUGIA_001, PERUGIA_002, PIEVE S.STEFANO_001, S.DONATO_001, BURANO_001, PRATOMAGNO_001), collected in Central Italy for commercial exploration during the '80s. These wells have been specifically selected across "The Alto Tiberina Near Fault Observatory area (NFO TABOO)". The source data is currently available in the Italian repository VIDEPI (videpi.com) in pdf format, scanned from the original paper copies including stratigraphic information, geophysical well logs and other ancillary information. Such format makes the data often difficult to be Found and Accesses, as well as making them not Inter-operable and Re-usable, as recommended by FAIR policy. This policy characterizes the EPOS infrastructure (https://www.epos-eu.org/dataportal), funder of such a digitalization pilot project accomplished by UniPG, collaborating with ISPRA in the framework of EPOS, to make deep boreholes data publicy available in a digital version. The new digitized data will enable the users to re-use them to allow quantitative analyse and interpretability, as well as to better integrated them in the geological and geophysical studies related to the NFO TABOO (https://taboo.ingv.it/).
