Cultivating competent employees is a key factor for survival in this competitive industrial environment. In business management and leadership, empowerment is essential, as it can enhance organizational performance. This study employs a survey and multiple regression analysis to examine the mediating role of leader-member exchange (LMX) quality in the relationship between trait competitiveness and psychological empowerment, using a large sample collected from various industries in Taiwan. The results indicate that trait competitiveness positively affects both LMX quality and psychological empowerment and that LMX quality plays a significant mediating role. Additionally, the negative moderating effect of networking ability is also supported. This study not only contributes to the literature on attribution theory, LMX, and psychological empowerment by proposing a model of internal, external, and relational attributions, but it also provides empirical evidence revealing the beneficial roles of competitive employees and the significance of their dyadic relationships with leaders.
