Exploring Insect Abundance in Danby Grassland/Woodlot at York University- Dataset 1 Lab03

Group members: Shaneil, Mary, Prachi, Gamsayini Data was collected on Wednesday September 30 at around 3:00 p.m. at York University in the Danby grassland and woodlot. It was approximately 15 degrees and the wind speed, based on the Beaufort scale, was about 2-4. It was fairly windy and a little cold. The experiment was completed by using a quadrant and placing it down on a specific area of the grassland and observing how many insects were found in the area covered by the quadrat. The observation was timed to one minute, using a stopwatch. For the timed minute, I, along with my group members closely monitored the quadrated area and counted how many insects were there and also the number of species that filled that area. This process was replicated 10 times in the grassland area and 10 more times in the woodlot, totalling 20 times. The abundance of insects and number of RTO’s (recognizable taxonomic units) were recorded.
