资源简介:
The world is getting hotter — faster than at any point in recorded human history. For billions of people living without access to conventional air conditioning, this is not a future problem. It is a daily survival challenge. By 2050, an estimated 3.5 billion people will be exposed to dangerously hot conditions for more than 20 days per year. The majority live in regions with no reliable electrical grid, no cooling infrastructure, and no economic access to compressor-based air conditioning. Global surface temperatures have risen by approximately 1.2°C above pre-industrial levels. The last decade has been the hottest on record. Extreme heat events that once occurred once per decade now happen five times more frequently. In urban areas, the heat island effect pushes local temperatures even higher. The consequences are not abstract: • Heat stroke and heat exhaustion kill hundreds of thousands every year • Children, elderly people, and those with chronic illness are most vulnerable • Agricultural workers, outdoor laborers, and displaced populations face the highest exposure • Existing cooling solutions require electricity grids, refrigerant chemicals, and ongoing maintenance costs that are simply out of reach for most of the world People without reliable electricity access > 770 million Projected temperature increase by 2100 (high-emission path) +3.5°C to +5°C Countries most exposed to lethal heat Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Middle East Global CO₂ from air conditioning (projected 2050) ~2 billion tonnes/year Conventional air conditioning is also part of the problem. Compressor-based systems consume enormous electricity, rely on hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants with thousands of times the warming potential of CO₂, and lock communities into an energy dependency that deepens inequality. The world cannot cool itself out of the climate crisis using the same systems that helped create it.
