Composition and Chemical Polymorphism of Leaf Essential Oils from Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana

Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana is an endemic tree species in Taiwan. Leaf oils from twelve sources of C. macrolepis var. formosana were obtained by water distillation and their chemical constituents were analyzed by GC-MS. Twenty-seven terpenoids were identified from C. macrolepis var. formosana leaf essential oil. Main constituents in leaf essential oil were α-pinene, limonene, β-myrcene, β-caryophyllene, and caryophyllene oxide. According to the chemical compositions of essential oils, leaf oils of C. macrolepis var. formosana from different sources might be classified into three chemotypes: limonene type, α-pinene type and mixed type by cluster analyses.
