VPRS 9599 Case Files, Annual Single Number System

This series contains files which document Industrial Relations Commission cases including appeals against determinations made by Conciliation and Arbitration Boards, applications to vary awards, revocation of recognition of employer/employee associations and until 1992, applications for the establishment of Conciliation and Arbitration Boards. In 1993 the Industrial Relations Commission was reconstituted as the Employee Relations Commission, however, this record keeping system was continued. Other types of files were then included in this system such as Unfair Dismissals, Mediation Files and Appeal, Award and Dispute Files.Papers on file will include submissions made by the parties to the case as well as exhibits, transcripts of evidence, general correspondence, deliberations and the determination of the Commission.ConsignmentsDue to the varying subject matters of the files this series has been split into six consignments to reflect the different subjects, as follows:* P1 contains the Commission Files,* P2 contains the Board Files,* P3 contains Unfair Dismissals(researchers should note that information concerning Unfair Dismissals prior to 1993 is contained within the relevant Conciliation and Arbitration Board Minutes, refer to VPRS 5467),* P4 contains Mediation Files,* P5 contains Appeal, Award and Dispute Files, and* P6 contains Industry Sector Case Files.Previous and related seriesThis series commenced in 1983 with the introduction of an annual single filing system. Files documenting similar cases between the period 1943 and 1982 were arranged in a single number sequence (refer to VPRS 5468).Files relating to hearings by Conciliation and Arbitration Boards were included in this series from the beginning of 1988 when the separate series of Board Hearings Files (VPRS 9600) was discontinued. The P2 consignment of this series contains all of the extant Board hearing files for the years 1988-1992.
