Chromosome-scale diploid unphased assembly of horsemint (Mentha longifolia)

Mints produce essential oils used in many commercial applications across the world. Here we present a haplotype-resolved chromosome scale assembly of a clone of diploid <i>Mentha longifolia</i> (horse mint), which is one of the parental species of both <i>Mentha piperita</i> (peppermint) and <i>Mentha spicata</i> (spearmint). Specifically, this genome assembly was developed from tissue from clone CMEN17 (PI 557755). This assembly, along with the previously assembled genome of <i>Mentha suaveolens</i> and a consensus assembly of <i>Mentha longifolia</i> will allow a wider toolset towards approaching mint cultivar development.
