The end of the felicitation polonaise. The last children are shaking hands with the whites (the second to the left is Daniel Schärf from Capetown, the others are his friends)"). Eight people: Three African children in the front, two European women on the right side and three European men on the left side. The men and women are standing face to face with the children. The children are standing with their back to the photographer. Two of the children are shaking hands with the women, the other child is going to shake hands with one of the men. The Europeans are smiling. Two children (apparently girls) are wearing dresses or skirts, the boy is dressed in a shirt and shorts. The men are wearing suits and ties and one man is holding an object in his hands. The women are wearing skirts, elegant jackets and hats. Next to them a fence and trees. In the background buildings and trees.; Johann Daniel Schärf, born in 1813 in Fulneck (England), was a baker. From 1843 till 1866 he worked as a missionary in South Africa (1843-1844 and 1852-1861 in Gnadenthal, 1844-1852 in Silo, 1861-1866 in Mamre). In 1866 he returned to Europe and died in 1884 in Niesky (Germany).--Paul Albert Theile, born in 1908 in Niesky (Germany), was a theologian and preacher. He was no missionary in Africa, but went on an educational journey to East Africa in 1933 and to South Africa in 1934. He was a mission deputy in Montmirail (France) from 1934 till 1938. In 1948 he married Susette Schmidt. After 1962 he was director of the Moravian Church in Switzerland. He died in 1995 in Birsfelden (near Basel / Switzerland).
