We have synthesized a unique example of a metal-organic framework with a cubic, ReO3 topology: Cr(pyrazine)3. This material consists of Cr(III) nodes pillared in three dimensions by pyrazine anion radicals. The Cr(III)-pyrazine radical linkage host one of the strongest pathways for antiferromagnetic superexchange known and the structure and spin moments dictate an almost perfectly compensated ferrimagnetic ground state. Magnetometry reveals an ordering temperature of around 460 K, a record-large value for a crystalline, air-stable metal-organic solid. In this project, we seek to obtain the Cr K edge XMCD spectrum of the material in order to elucidate the electronic and magnetic structure of this spectacular material.
