资源简介:
Wind is a resource present world wide and which can be used to generate both mechanical and electrical energy. However, it is intermittent and stochastic in nature, thus, its availability and intensity varies from one geographical region to another. Before setting up a project to generate electricity from the resource in a given location, it is necessary to determine the availability or potential of the resource in a given area. This step is important as it determines the economic feasibility and viability of such a project. Consequently, research is carried out in a given area to assess its potential in wind energy before starting any wind power generation project.
To characterize works done under this problem, we used the following properties:
-The country where the study is carried out, since the potential is location-dependent.
-The number of sites considered during the study.
-The locations of the sites, whether they are onshore or offshore.
-The height/s at which the potential was evaluated or at which evaluation was considered. Wind speed is known to increase in strength or intensity with height. Although one may not find a suitable potential at one height further studies can be done at greater heights in a quest for a better potential.
-The power density is the amount of energy contained in the surface area swept by a wind turbine’s blade. Evaluating the power density at a given height informs us on the availability of the resource.
-Lastly the results of each work was collected, informing us on the wind potential in the considered site/s.
