Potential Natural Vegetation

This layer describes the expected state of mature vegetation in the absence of human intervention, and looks to reconstruct the likely biological character of New Zealand's pre-human past.<br><br>The dataset was created by statistical tools, which were used for interpolation of point climate data and the analysis of spatial patterns. It builds on preliminary statistical modelling by Leathwick (2001), and newly available high-resolution environmental data layers, to reconstruct New Zealand's 'Potential Vegetation Pattern'.
