Apis mellifera mellifera isolate:ACANBOUESSANT Genome sequencing and assembly

Apis mellifera mellifera, the European black bee, is the original western European honeybee subspecies. Although it has been replaced in the majority of beekeeper's facilities by hybrid lines, it is still used by dedicated breeders and is preserved in conservatories. The sample sequenced here is from the black bee conservatory “Association Conservatoire de l'Abeille Noire Bretonne” in the island of Ouessant, France. A conservation population was set up starting in 1987 on the island, 20 km off the coast, and the import of any exogenous genetic material on the, is banned since 1991.
