资源简介:
This series consists of a file containing copies of weekly reports detailing munitions produced at the Eveleigh Railway Workshops. Eveleigh Workshops began producing munitions for use in World War II in 1940. Production continued until the end of 1942 with the use of equipment supplied by the Ministry of Defence. By 1943 the Ministry of Defence had organised its own workshops and no longer required the services of Eveleigh Workshops. (1)The weekly reports are addressed to The Secretary, Ministry of Munitions and signed by the Chief Mechanical Engineer at Eveleigh. Information contained within the weekly reports includes: number produced, number rejected in process of manufacture, number delivered to inspection, number awaiting delivery to inspection, number of staff employed. The total munitions produced for the week and the total munitions produced to date are also given at the bottom of each report. In addition to the weekly reports, the file also contains a graphic representation of munitions produced at Eveleigh. Copies of correspondence from the Chief Mechanical Engineer and correspondence to the Chief Mechanical Engineer can also be found in the file.Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an 'in house archives' consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the 'State Rail Archives' the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as part of series R441. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R441 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.Endnote1.
