X-ray diffraction patterns of Pennsylvanian paleosols from the Mudstone Series of Upper Silesia Basin (Poland)

The dataset contains X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of 38 paleosol horizons from the Pennsylvanian Mudstone and Cracow Sandstone Series of the Upper Silesia Basin (Poland). The investigated samples come from five boreholes Jaworzno G-5109 (JAW5109), Warszowice-Pawłowice Texaco A (WP TXA), Amoco-Miedźna 1 (AMIE), Amoco-Poręba 1 (APOR), Żory 1M (ZOR1M), and Dąb-Zachód G-15 (G15). The dataset contains two sets of XRD patterns:
- patterns of random mounts of bulk samples, crushed to pass 0.45 mm sieve and subsequently milled in McCrone micronizing mill (file "XRD_random_bulk.csv"; 38 patterns)
- patterns of oriented mounts prepared from <2 μm Ca-saturated size fraction separated from the bulk samples after treatments with sodium acetate–acetic acid buffer (pH = 5.5), sodium hypochlorite, and sodium dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate (DCB) solutions. For each mount an XRD pattern was registered in an air-dry state and after saturation with ethylene glycol (file "XRD_Oriented_less2_Ca.csv", 62 patterns for 31 samples)
All patterns were obtained with a Rigaku SmartLab SE diffractometer equipped with the Cu lamp, the CBO-α accessory, and the Ni filter in the 2-65°2θ range with a 0.02° step and a 1 s counting time.
