Code of buried meltwater in the Greenland Ice Sheet persisting throughout winter

Recent studies have shown that buried meltwater (BM) beneath the surface of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) can persist through winter, serving as a buffer of ice sheet’s contribution to sea level rise. However, little is known about the overall distribution and evolution patterns of BM. To enhance our understanding of the detailed distribution patterns of BM and their response to climate change, it is crucial to detect BM efficiently and frequently over a large scale. This study aims to achieve the following objectives to monitor BM weekly from Sentinel-1 imagery during winter from 2015 to 2023.
