The asymmetric hydrocarbonation of alkenes represents a significant approach for achieving stereoselective carbon-carbon bond formation. Cobalt metal has garnered attention due to its abundance, biological compatibility, and unique properties. In recent years, significant research progress has been made in cobalt-catalyzed asymmetric hydrocarbonation reactions of alkenes. Herein, we summarize these advancements according to reaction type—hydroacylation, hydroalkenylation, and hydroalkylation, providing a comprehensive discussion of the scope and limitations, plausible mechanisms and opportunities for future development.
