Data and R code for the study on plant functional traits in Cantabrian Mountain assemblages (Spain, Europe)

The repository contains the dataset and R code for the study "Handling mean-variance scaling in intraspecific trait variability and implications for trait-environment analyses". This dataset (traits.csv) contains sub-individual measurements of functional traits collected from plant species across the Cantabrian Mountains in north-western Spain in 2023-2025. The traits included are specific leaf area (SLA; mm²/mg), leaf area (LA; mm²), and flower size (FS), quantified as flower dry mass (mg). The data are provided as a CSV file and include the trait measurements together with the associated sampling metadata. These metadata describe the relevant spatial, sampling and observational information required to identify and interpret each measurement (elevation, habitat, plant species richness). The dataset was generated as part of field sampling conducted within research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science (PRE2021-100978) and Innovation and the Spanish Research Agency (PID2020-115259GB-I00, PID2024-155250NB-I00 and PID2023-152801NB-I00). The repository also includes an R script (code.rmd) documenting the processing and analyses of the data, as well as two serialized R objects containing derived information used in the analyses (random.rds, scales_random.rds).
