资源简介:
Two cruises were undertaken in May and June 1999 in which dye patches were
released to study cross-frontal exchange. On Oceanus Cruise 342, led by Bob
Houghton of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO), dye was released in the
bottom mixed layer. Jim Ledwell of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
(WHOI), led Endeavor Cruise 323/324 in which dye and drifters were deployed in
the pycnocline and in the surface layer.
Only the data from the Houghton Oceanus cruise 342 are reported here.
In May-June 1999 dye patches were released from R/V Oceanus (cruise 342) to
study cross-frontal exchange on the southern flank and the northeast peak of
Georges Bank. Fluorescein dye was injected into the bottom mixed layer on the
stratified side of the tidal front at sites on the southern flank and northeast
peak of Georges Bank. A Scanfish CTD towed unit augmented with a dye sensor
was used to monitor the dispersion of dye as well as locate the frontal system.
Three separate surveys of multiple lines were made during this period. For
more details and preliminary findings see "Related URL" entries.
