hostile.eco — UK Energy Events Corpus

A curated, primary-source-cited dataset of significant events affecting the UK energy system, 2004 to present. 56 events at first release across seven categories: policy, infrastructure, geopolitical, market, weather, demand, and milestone. Each event row carries a frozen-taxonomy category, severity tier, occurrence range, country/fuel-type tags, source-incentive-classified URLs, and an editorial methodology note. The corpus is the editorial backbone of the energy-events overlay on https://hostile.eco/data and the dataset behind the per-event detail pages at https://hostile.eco/insights/gb. It powers data-journalism use cases that need citable, machine-readable timestamps for events that drove UK electricity-system behaviour. Schema: described as a Frictionless Data Table Schema (events.yaml), with column-level documentation in README.md. Validation gates: bun run scripts/events/validate-seed.ts events.csv; frictionless validate events.yaml. Editorial principle: every source has incentives — government bodies, regulators, NGOs, industry, and trade press all have agendas. The methodology column documents source-tier classification and explicit incentive notes when non-primary sources (NGO, industry, advocacy) are used. Versioning: updates to the corpus are released as new Zenodo versions; this concept DOI always resolves to the latest version. Per-version DOIs are also issued.
