资源简介:
Eight pollen samples and a single botanic identification sample were examined from
48SW11483, the Alkali Creek Site, in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. The Alkali Creek Site is
located on a low ridge overlooking the confluence of Alkali Creek and Salt Wells Creek at the foot
of Pine Mountain between Flaming Gorge and Vermillion Basin. Feature 1, a slab-lined, cobblefilled
hearth, yielded a radiocarbon age of 3580 +/- 70 BP. Features 2 and 3 yielded radiocarbon
ages of 2970 +/- 70 BP and 3360 +/- 80 BP, respectively. These dates define Cultural Component
2, an Archaic Pine spring phase occupation. Feature 4, which was examined in this analysis, was
not radiocarbon dated. A neoglacial soil overlies Component 2. Pollen analysis was undertaken
to identify paleoenvironmental conditions and to examine the occupation surface and a mano from
Cultural Component 1 for evidence of plant processing.
