RNA-seq of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) breeding strains Born and Silver Steelhead

The aim of this experiment was to investigate the genetic variation between the local rainbow trout breeding strain Born, selected for survival, and the commercially available Silver Steelhead strain, selected for growth. Analysed tissue types included gills, head kidney, heart, liver, spleen and white muscle. Paired-end sequencing of sample libraries was completed on an Illumina Genome Analyzer GA IIx with 150 bp paired-end reads. We identified strain-specific gene expression patterns and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).
