资源简介:
The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school. The series from Markwell Public School is currently represented only by its final volume, commenced in September, 1933, which records enrolments from as early as 1928 until the closure of the school in 1962. This volume contains information pertaining to each pupil including: date of admission; pupil's name; date of birth; religious denomination; name of previous school and date of leaving. The following details are recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence and occupation. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, date of leaving the school and any occupation entered into on leaving school are also recorded; this last column is also regularly used to indicate the school to which a pupil may have transferred.Girls and boys are listed on opposite pages in order of admission, and numbered in separate sequences. This numbering initially continued that in the previous volume of the series, but in July, 1935, the record was revised, all current enrolments were re-entered (including some transferred from the previous volume), and the numbering of boys and girls was recommenced from “1.” This numbering is then continued up until the end of 1950, after which a new system is adopted, under which each new school year’s entries (boys and girls still appearing in two separate sequences) are numbered anew from “1,” with the last two digits of the year-number added as a prefix.
